Visit from the Clan of B

Aunt Kelly (Kelleh) and cousins Tyler and Timmy paid us a visit this past weekend. Sylvie played coy for a few minutes, but quickly warmed up to her family members. She enjoyed playing with her LeapFrog table with Timmy, climbing on Tyler’s legs, and snuggling with Aunt Kelly (and ogling her jewelry and painted fingernails). We wandered around Davis, checked out a craft fair, pigged out on Chinese (which resulted in Mama having food poisoning, but that’s another story!), and got silly with Andrew and some wine after Sylvie went to bed. It was so great to see everyone and we’re excited to go visit them (and Grammy Bev) very soon!

Easter fun

Sylvie awoke on her first Easter to an egg “hunt,” courtesy of the Easter Bunny. Monsieur Bunny “hid” three wooden shaker eggs in very obscure places throughout the house. ;) As she’s a true Brousseau, it took her a while to see through her sleepy morning haze and realize that there were surprises in store. But once she caught on, she scampered happily from egg to egg, giggling and clacking away.

We then headed to the store, where she helped pick out the flowers for the dinner table (yellow Gerbera daisies) and the cheeses for the cheese plate (she sampled and liked 4 different types, including a blue cheese! She’s definitely her mama’s daughter).

When we returned, Sylvie donned her fanciest duds and welcomed friends Big Andrew, Little Andrew, and Matt. Despite a brief 10-minute nap, she was a charming and flirtatious hostess. She even said “hi” for the first time as Matt sat down on the couch! We all stuffed ourselves full of yummy Easter dinner and enjoyed hanging out and watching Sylvie’s latest antics. She’s becoming quite a ham as the months roll on. An Easter ham!

Sunday, birthday Sunday

Sylvie attended two birthday parties this past Sunday. First was a party for her buddy Julia who is now one. I met her mom, Annika, at Joselyn’s baby shower back when all three of us were pregnant. Amazingly, we now have a 10 month-old, a 1 year-old, and a 13 month-old! We had a great time hanging out at their place and Sylvie enjoyed playing with Julia’s many cool toys (including a rocking horse that neighs!). Happy birthday, sweet girl!

After that, we headed over to Andrew’s place for a 10th birthday celebration for Mr. Grover. For those of you who don’t know Grover…well, he’s a cat. A very pampered and revered little celebrity of a cat. He even has his own blog. He drew quite a crowd of admirers, and was a bit intimidated by his own celebrity and spent most of his party hiding under a dresser. And then, just as he began to feel a bit courageous… in…came…Sylvie. Her newest word is “et” for cat, and she shrieked “et! et!” over and over again and maniacally scampered toward Grover and his toys as he cowered in fear. Luckily, she eventually tired of trying to touch him and play with his toys and went to flirt with the other party-goers instead. I hope the poor little guy has recovered by now. Happy birthday, Mr. Grover!

Happy Birthday, Daddy!

We celebrated Jon’s birthday this weekend for the first time as a family of three. He’s turning 29 again. :) This year, instead of more objects to clutter our life, I decided to give him experiences. Turned out to be a lot harder to finagle this now that we have a baby – next year he’s getting stuff! We started Friday night by dropping him off for a beer date with his buddy Frank. He followed this up by sleeping in (for once) the next morning until 11:30 (!) When he got up, I made us a decadent brunch, and later we feasted on a birthday pie (he’s not much for cake). After a relaxing day together, we got to go on our first Boston date since Sylvie was born! My friend Katie came over and stayed with Sylvie after she went to bed.  We went to Ten Tables in Cambridge and got the “trust the chef” tasting menu, which was utterly incredible! (Although we did find ourselves eating “squab” and had to look up what it was. I’ll let you do your own Googling if you’re curious. It was good, though!) We finished up with some ridiculously over-priced cocktails at a swanky hotel bar, and got home just before midnight. Fantastic. Happy birthday, my love!

Ladies Who Lunch, Part 2 (Now with gentlemen!)

It’s Boston Restaurant Week (technically 2 weeks), and we couldn’t let this opportunity pass us by without exposing our budding gourmands to some of the delicacies our fair city has to offer. Well, really we moms just wanted some inexpensive 4-course fancy lunches! Friends Kate, Nancy, and Joselyn and I all headed out to the Elephant Walk French/Cambodian restaurant with our babes in tow. I was all for the idea, but had a moment of panic as I walked in and saw our table set up right in the front of the restaurant, complete with 4 highchairs. My mind started to race: What if all the babies melted down and threw their food? What if they asked us to leave?

Luckily, my fears proved unfounded. The babies entertained themselves with books and toys and swiped the occasional bits of food off of our plates. Sylvie tried (and loved) watercress and bean sprouts for the first time. She will basically eat anything as long as she sees me eating it first. It was a lovely lunch date. We had such a good time, in fact, that we have plans to go again this week. Hey, the next time it comes around we will all have TODDLERS, and I have a feeling it won’t go quite as smoothly, so we might as get it in now!

Silliness with Sonia and Nuno

Our good friend Nuno moved to L.A. after graduation last year to try to find work, but ultimately decided that his heart (and his love) remained in Boston, so now he’s back! And he and Sonia are now engaged and getting married in Portugal this year. They came over last Sunday (with friends Asa and Jonah) for a rowdy game of post-bedtime Pictionary. Before Sylvie went to bed, she got in some giggle time with her old buddies. They hadn’t seen each other since Thanksgiving!
