I will make it to term!
May 28, 2009 at 1:40 pm
This morning was the last official doctor’s appointment to determine my induction fate. If my blood pressure had escalated, I would have been booked right then and there. Luckily, it held steady at a slightly-higher-than-ideal rate, and my OB (Beth Hardiman) told me to go home. Before I left we booked my induction for first thing Monday morning – my official due date! I will make it to 40 weeks after all!
I’m still scared of induction and Pitocin and really, truly don’t want it, but I do understand the reasoning behind her not allowing me to go beyond 40 weeks. The benefits just don’t outweigh the risks at that point. Beth has been very supportive of my desire to go on my own, and she has held out as long as she could, but I ultimately agreed with her that induction makes the most sense at this point. Ideally, I will go into labor on my own this weekend.
The good news was that I have progressed to 1-2 cm. dilated and 80% effaced. Beth also stripped my membranes. I do NOT recommend doing this lightly, as it hurts like a b*tch, but I am open to any techniques at this point that might help me go into spontaneous labor. She said that if it worked it will take effect in the next 48 hours. We shall see. While we wait it out, we’ll continue our natural induction techniques, with castor oil being my last resort on Sunday.
I’m just so thankful to have made it this far and to not have had any further complications. I can barely wrap my brain around the fact that Jon and I will be meeting our daughter in the next 4 days! Wow!
