Bumps, bottles, and Biba, oh my!
June 30, 2009 at 11:37 am
This week Sylvie came down with a bad case of baby acne. Overnight she went from a soft and smooth baby complexion to one that rivals those found in any high school homeroom. The poor thing is covered in bumps on her face, neck, ears, and even on her scalp. Luckily it doesn’t seem to bother her at all.
Since she hit the one-month mark and has been doing well at breastfeeding, we decided to try giving her a bottle of expressed milk. Pumping was, um, an interesting experience, but that’s another story. After a few tentative moments exploring the texture of this strange new nipple, Sylvie decided that this substitute was just fine, at least for now. She happily drank it down, even though it was still cool from refrigeration. Perhaps now I can periodically venture out for a bit or have a guilt-free glass of wine. Hooray!
We said “bienvenue” on Saturday to Auntie Biba (aka Tara), who came all the way from Lyon, France. Tara taught Sylvie some of the finer points in the kitchen and Sylvie introduced Tara to her vast array of facial expressions and rhino noises. It was love at first sight.

It truly was love at first sight! She’ll spend more hours with me in the kitchen throughout her years. Can’t wait to teach her how to make cherry salmon. We’ll give it a few years….
