Dear Sylvie (at 2 months)
July 29, 2009 at 11:05 pm
Happy 2-month birthday! Time certainly keeps marching on, doesn’t it? My precious baby girl’s age can now be described in terms of months, not just weeks. Wow. We finally designed your birth announcement tonight. It’s a little late (OK, a lot), but we got to include some smiles since we waited so long. Hopefully we [...]

Dressing a girl can be a little too much fun, although I’m not sure Sylvie agrees! [Wardrobe credits to Mary (dress) and Sandy (antique cap)]
We’re all parents now!
July 28, 2009 at 10:01 pm
On the 19th, we had a reunion with several families from our Isis Natural Childbirth class. The last time we all saw each other, we were all in the last trimester. Now we’re all parents! We knew it was coming, of course, yet somehow it’s still amazing. Gabriel, Miriam, and Nora were all charming and [...]
Grandpa and Mary
July 27, 2009 at 10:02 pm
Grandpa and Mary came out to visit on the 18th. When I was little, we called my dad’s dad “Gumpy.” I wonder what name Sylvie will bestow on him when she’s older.
Sylvie’s “big sisters”
July 24, 2009 at 10:53 am
On the 14th, Sylvie and I headed over to Cambridge to visit Phoebe, Julia, and Kathy. The girls are too adorable with Sylvie, pronouncing different parts of her “so cute” and “teeny tiny.” Each time we see them, they excitedly present her with various hand-me-downs and some of their favorite toys, books, and treasures (on [...]
Sylvie’s first date (with two boys!)
July 22, 2009 at 10:59 am
On the 8th Frankie and Noah came over (and, of course, their moms Meg and Joselyn). Sylvie styled her mohawk extra fancy that day and the boys showed off their rolling skills. We all went out to lunch and for a walk and had a great time. We’re planning on making it a pretty regular [...]
Lauren comes to visit, 7/6/09
July 21, 2009 at 10:27 pm
Lauren Kenneally of Creative Birth Doulas was our doula for Sylvie’s birth and she was absolutely amazing. She showed up at our house at 2 am and provided unfailing support to both Jon and me throughout the next 16+ hours of labor. Whether through massage, coaching, or simply letting me squeeze her hand, Lauren’s ability [...]
Just because it’s funny

I love how she looks utterly embarrassed to even be associated with her daddy…
Fourth of July fun
July 21, 2009 at 9:58 pm
Sylvie dressed in her most (and only) patriotic ensemble and we celebrated Independence Day in the backyard with “The Andrews,” Matt, Damon, and Topher. No fireworks this year, but the hot dogs and croquet were just as fun. Oh, and I cut loose and had a couple of beers while daddy fed Sylvie. Woo-hoo!

Perhaps it started with the “eventful” pregnancy, consisting of a scare of both cholestasis and preeclampsia. Or maybe my mind started traveling down darker paths when I had too much time on my hands during 6 weeks of bed rest. Or it’s possible it really kicked in when, during my 39-week ultrasound, the technician spent [...]
